Ever since the tragic Grenfell fire, the Construction industry has been challenged to recognise its failings and undergo a culture change. Our approach to Designing Differently and the development of the DRM toolkit has enabled many project teams to demonstrably comply with the requirements of CDM 2015, particularly when carrying out the principal designer (PD) role. The requirements of the Building Safety Act and revised Building Regulations have broadened the duties on those carrying out the client and PD roles particularly for higher-risk buildings (HRBs).
We have developed an enhanced set of tools, based on the original DRM toolkit to help project leaders to systematically and progressively identify and manage risks from the concept stage through to completion and produce the Golden Thread of information required by the Building Safety Act. The guidance, templates and a worked example can be found on the new 'Building Safety Differently' page.
